ACTIVITIES

Activity 1:

Thai red curry is from Thailand. Sushi is from Japan. Amok trei is from the Khmer Empire. Poppadums are from somewhere in India, Pakistan, and/or Bangladesh. Spaghetti is from Palermo in Sicily. I have eaten food from Haiti and Mexico and more.

Activity 2:

United States, china, other, and other advanced economics. Those countries gain more benefits from globalization and shares

Activity 3:

When I drive around or I am in the mall. At Starbucks you can get coffee and pastries. I have never seen fair trade. They stand for what ever values get them money and let them make a profit. These places sell other products like cups and clothes to promote their business.

Activity 4:

1.Starbucks says they pay a average of over a dollar per pound of coffee and they commit to fair trade

2.severe economic inequalities of coffee making with the laborer/farmers aren’t paid compared to sellers

3.exploitation of farmers

Activity 5:

They have large platforms and fans/followers. They raise awareness to specific issues and they know it will reach many areas of people based on their platforms

·      Gamson - emerging celebrity activism narrative is an attempt at establishing a greater connection between the audience and celebrities

·      The world is becoming increasingly interconnected as a result of massively increased trade and cultural exchange. This process has been called globalization

·       the ‘growing interconnectedness of various parts of the world, a process which gives rise to the complex form of the interaction and interdependency

·      Reasons for globalization: improvements in communication and transportation, freedom of trade, and labor availability and skills

·      When you buy something, your anti-capitalist duty –the desire to do something for others and for the environment – is already included in your purchase.’
